Spring'spirations

It's that time of year again.

Since I work at a huge mall, I've been seeing spring fashion in all the shop windows. But I've only started seeing a whisper of spring weather recently. I've been literally itching to break out the sandals and retire my tights for the season. Seriously, winter weather really does a number on my eczema. I want the warm weather. I want it all.

And since the Sasquatch lineup was announced, I've started planning my festival outfits again. So I gathered up some styles that will hopefully be making their way into my wardrobe this season.

Basically, I'll still be rocking the denim still (because denim is always in style), florals, and lots of flowy shit. Revolutionary, isn't it?

LUSH EASTER GOODIES

It's that time of year again - when Lush comes out with all the kitschiest shit you can think of. Easter! Let's celebrate when that Jesus guy went all Walking Dead on us with rabbits and colored eggs. That makes zero sense, but who the hell cares? CARROT SOAP AND A GOLDEN EGG BATH BOMB COVERED IN COCOA BUTTER.

Little Red Shoes

I'm currently sitting inside the Caffe Vita on E Pike in Capitol Hill, stalling before a show, and I thought - hey I've got a bit of a post backup, let's post one!

And as I was listening to Mt St Helens Vietnam Band, I realized that they have a song on their 2009 record called "Little Red Shoes." It was meant to be, y'all!

Rocking the dirty hair

Recently I've discovered the key to hair that looks great all the time - stop washing it!

I'm not necessarily saying to stop washing it altogether, just to wash it way less often. I used to wash my hair every other day, and I felt like I had to. My bangs got super oily after two days and the rest of my hair just felt dirty and grimy. Turns out, I was using terrible shampoo and I was slightly inflating how dirty my hair was in my mind. I've already done several videos and posts about the shampoos and hair products I use that make my hair look as full and healthy as it does, but I've never done one strictly about what I do on those third and fourth days after a hair washing.

Top Ten Spring Lipsticks

It's officially Spring! So in honor of this wonderful holiday, I compiled my favorite spring lipsticks. As you can see, I love me some Mac lipsticks, and bright colors. I've been rocking neutral lips and dark eyes a lot lately, so I thought it was time to break out the corals and fuchsias. We had like a 60 degree day today, I swear! I got iced coffee! It's officially Spring!

Vinyl | Promises

More vinyls, yay! For today's installment, I'm spotlighting a little 7" I found at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard a few months ago. You see how cheap this thing was? $2.99! I love buying used. I've found some great CDs at Sonic Boom and Easy Street for like $3 used, which is always nice. It's like buying secondhand furniture - it's already worn in and already loved, but you get to give it a new home.
I already owned Big Echo on CD, which this single was from, but when I saw this, I knew I had to have it. I haven't seen the Morning Benders (now Pop Etc) in over three years, so clearly I miss them.

This was one of the first 7" vinyls to my collection - the other being some rare We Are Scientists records I got from Ebay. Those will be coming up soon in a post, as soon as I find them in box in the basement. They're around here somewhere. And they're red.
Chris Chu, please come back to America and tour. Please. I miss your lovely voice.

I love that they included this little prose in the vinyl too - it's in the booklet for Big Echo, and it's one of my favorite things.
Also, it's my favorite thing to see which number this was out of a small printing. I got copy number 42! The answer to life, the universe, and everything!

Achy Breaky Muscle Remedies

So I caught myself a nasty cold last weekend. It was my own fault though, I got like 9 hours of sleep over the course of two nights, but the fun was all worth it. However, the sleep hangover that ensued wasn't so much fun. I woke up after the first full night of sleep in three nights, and I literally ached all over. My head, my sinuses, my feet, my back, my neck, and even my damn arms. I hurt everywhere.

Naturally, I found some remedies for this post-weekend body ache. And they are wonderful.

Old Town Blues

The process that Sarah and I took to get these photos is a funny one. The usual spot where we shoot on 6th ave was unfortunately occupied by a red car so we had to improvise. We hopped in our cars and found an alleyway behind the Crown Bar. There wasn't anywhere to park, so we literally just stopped in the alley to take these pictures.

What the heck is a Temple Balm?

Chances are, you've never seen these at a Lush store. I know I never have. The only place I've seen these Temple Balms are on the UK website. But one of my coworkers recently traveled to New York City for Fashion Week, and took a day to go to the Lush Spa in NYC. And at the Lush Spa, she picked up Temple Balms for everyone at our shop (thanks Ariel!)

Meetings with Remarkable Men (Show Me the Hero)

Why did I name this post after a Harvey Danger song? Not any reason particular, just the fact that I've been spinning King James Version and Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone a ton over the last 24 hours. Maybe because my outfit is hardcore channeling the 90s?

On the single life

I realized yesterday that it was March 5th. For most people, that day doesn't mean anything, unless of course they were like, born on that day...but for me, March 5th represents one year of being a single adult.

Granted, I spent statistically most of my life as a single person, but 3/5/13 marked the end of my first long term relationship (two years), and while it ended in a confusing way, I'm eternally grateful for all the things I got to experience while in that relationship. I learned a lot about myself, and what I want and don't want in a partner. We're still friends, so it's not a toxic relationship, thankfully.

At the time of the breakup, I was a freaking wreck. I actually did an outfit shoot that day, so in a weird way that blog post is the start of my new adult life - as a single lady.

This blog is a great way to see the progression I've gone through this year, both in the way I carry myself and the way my stance and style has changed. I'm not the same person I was a year ago. I'm much more comfortable in my skin, much more up front about what I want, and much more relaxed. A lot of things can be attributed to those changes: my job at Lush, my loyal YouTube subscribers, the constant influx of new people I meet at shows, and the year of me time.

Before I started dating Andy, I was just about as inexperienced in life as one could get. The only thing I'd ever done that most people my age hadn't was end up in the hospital for nine days with a rare auto-immune disorder that could have killed me. But other than that, nadda. I was still in college, I had just been shooting shows for a little over a year, and I was in this weird limbo where I didn't know what I was doing with my life but my best friend was pregnant.

Now that I've experienced so much as an adult, I feel like I'm a more interesting person. I've grown up. And I like it. I like the person that I've transformed into over the last year. And while I'm quite anxious to start dating again (moreso lately because of a recent crush that has gone absolutely nowhere), I'm glad I've spent the last year totally and relentlessly single. Life has been less complicated, less cluttered.

While it's been lonely at times, I've had so much more clarity. And that's a good thing to have that much time to yourself before even thinking about getting into another relationship. But now I'm ready. I'm ready to start dating. I don't necessarily know how to go about doing that, since my first "boyfriend" from college basically just told me that he liked me and we hung out for three months and that was it. And Andy wooed me with a YouTube song, so nothing about my relationships up until now have been normal. I guess it makes life more interesting, when nothing is normal. When nothing starts out normal, and nothing finishes normal.

We'll see how 2014 goes. I'm just hoping I meet someone at a show. It's so much easier if the person you dig actually likes doing the same stuff as you.

NEW IN: Lush Handy Gurugu

I've added a new hand cream to my collection. So sue me.
This time I've picked up Handy Gurugu, the hand cream that is packed full of peanut butter, cashew butter, almond butter, pumpkinseed butter, rose water, and evening primrose oil. It smells old-fashioned and divine, and it's just the right consistency for me.

I'm not a fan of sticky hand creams, but I also need a ton of moisture, so watery hand creams are useless to me. I love the almost whipped butter feel of Handy Gurugu - it's silky and soft without being too heavy. I dig it.

But the real reason I picked this up was for its anti-aging properties. Most of the time you see evening primrose oil in facial creams, not body care. It's something that apparently tells the skin to produce more elastin, reducing wrinkles. I've always had old people hands, ever since I was about 13. So I thought, hmm, lemme try some anti-aging hand cream!
Ingredients: Rose Water (Rosa centifolia) , Fair Trade Organic Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) , Glycerine , Stearic Acid , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) , Triethanolamine , Fresh Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum) , Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia) , Rose Absolute (Rosa centifolia) , Chamomile Blue Oil (Matricaria Chamomilla) , Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera biennis) , Organic Peanut Butter (Arachis Hypogaea) , Organic Pumpkinseed Butter (Cucurbita) , Organic Cashew Nut Butter (Anacardium) , Organic Almond Butter (Prunus Dulcis) , Tincture of Benzoin (Styrax benzoin) , Cetearyl Alcohol , *Benzyl Salicylate , Coumarin , *Geraniol , *Benzyl Benzoate , *Farnesol , *Limonene , *Linalool , Perfume , Chlorophyllin , Methylparaben , Propylparaben

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now on a semi-regular basis, and while I don't seen any results yet (because it's natural, not witchcraft) I love how it makes my hands feel and smell. It's a strong rose scent from the rose water, but the nut butters in their make it a really unique smell.

What is your favorite hand cream? Do anti-aging ingredients intrigue you?

Buy Handy Gurugu HERE or any of your local Lush shops.

Dancing Shoes

This was not the outfit I put on yesterday. I had on different shoes, but since I had some time to kill, I stopped at Urban Xchange in downtown Tacoma for the first time in a few months, since I had some store credit to spend.

Once I got there, I found them. I found these beautiful sequin Sam Edelman Oxfords. I thought, "these can't fit me, they're too good to be true." I tried them on, and it's as if the clouds parted (granted it was quite sunny yesterday). They fit me. Like a glove. I was meant to find these shoes.
